Underline any new words if you are unsure of the meaning.
After you finish reading Chapter 1, you must write down [in your notebooks] any questions you have about the main character.
Then, find the following words in your reader.
squint, foamy, mush, churn, spew, pus, wriggling, swishing, clanging, wobble, scrunched, spurt.
Use the sentence they are in to try and work out their meaning.
In your notebooks, write a description of an object or place and try and include at least 5 of the words from the vocabulary list.
Put your readers back on the shelf once you have finished and read your silent reading book if you have any extra time.

You will begin with the first case study for an EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT BUILDING. This will be due for presentation the week of 8th Jan. This week, you may work on it in class.

P4: Y6I&S: On a new page, put the date and title 'MAPS'. Now copy the question: "What is a map?" and write down your answer.
You will spend the next 15 minutes using a pencil, eraser and ruler to draw a map of the 9th Floor on your page. Label your map as best you can.
Compare your map with your partners- What are some differences? Whose do you think is better? Why?
P5 & 6: Y10P I&S: In Groups of four, have each student become a specialist in one of these four trade practices. They will then teach the rest of the group about that practice. Make a list of all the four in your notebook and write notes about each so you can refer back to them in the future.
P7: Y9T: Now that you know all about the tectonic plates, pick a volcano which has been active in the past decade. Using Canava.com, create an infographic about that particular volcano, what tectonic movements caused it [explain them]; what type of volcano it is; what the explosion was like; what type of lava flows were seen/experienced; effects of the volcano etc.

- how she feels about her family
- how she feels about the camp
- how she feels about the attitude of the guards
P4: Y6I&S: Students think about their journey to school everyday. Create a graphic representation on A3 paper of everything you do from the time you wake up until you come to homeroom. You may create a mindmap/ spidergraph/ timeline etc. You may use the colours/materials available in the classroom.
P5: Y10P I&S: Keep your References page with you, I will collect it when I am back. Today work on the following:
Take a photo of yourself. Upload it to a googledoc. Now think about how many countries you are connected to. Add a flag and once/two sentences to explain the connection. Upload your work on the Googleclassroom assignment page. You will be formatively assessed on Criterion C(i): Communicates ideas effectively and accurately using a style and structure that is completely appropriate to the purpose and audience.
