Prep for Y10
Week of June 1st to June 30th
You are going to work on doing some contextual research for your unit on Great Gatsby in Y10.
Start by researching the time during which both books were written.
Then work in groups to research the following areas:

How did people have different outlooks/ attitudes to life during the times that both books were written? What was considered important in their lives? How did it differ? What caused these differences?
SOCIOLOGISTS [2] Hei Kiu, Tanya, Jasmine, Hilary
Were there any laws instituted which influenced the writing of GG? How was common life portrayed differently in both the books? Compare factors which influenced the social structure in both books.
HISTORIANS [Lauren, Sonia, Amanda, TY]
Compare and contrast the times during which GG & OMAM were written. [social, economic, cultural values]
Consider changes in attitudes and value systems and how societal classes were formed.

What themes are covered in GG? Explain them and their relevance to society.
Compare and contrast these to the themes in OMAM.
