What are we learning at school this week?
[Please keep in mind that formative assessment is a continuous process]
Year 7
22nd Feb We will be inquiring into our next unit on Media and Cinematography. Students will first analyse and create print media before moving on to cinematographic styles and angles. The final product at the end of this unit will be a short 3 minute production demonstrating their learning of cinematographic techniques. Jan 2016 We will be working on creating Biographies based on our grandparents or parents. These will be completed in class. We are working on writing Biographies in class. The entire writing process will be assessed both formatively and summatively. Please be informed that the work must be mostly completed in class independently; Drafting the interview questions in class, interviewing the subject at home, writing down their answers at home, drafting chapters, editing and finally publishing the chapters IN CLASS; before it is then taken home over the CNY holiday to type up and print at home. If the work is not done in class, it will effect the overall grade on the assessment. 2nd November We will be inquiring into different Celebrations around the world and presenting our findings to the class. We will also be learning from our peers' presentations 26th Oct We will be finishing our last summative assessment for 'Boy' and then reflecting on our learning in this unit, which will be reflected in our e-portfolios. 5th Oct We will continue with the book Boy and do some exercises in class to ensure comprehension. 21st Sept We will be working our way through the book Boy by Roald Dahl through the lens of our unit question. 14th Sept We will wrap up our mini-unit on short stories and move on to our next unit, a novel study on Roald Dahl's Boy. 7th Sept We will be working on our posters to demonstrate our learning and recap on everything we know about stories and their elements, structure and arcs. We will check our progress with our teacher on the 7th and then present our posters on 10th and 11th Sept. Aug 24 This week we have familiarised ourselves with our new learning environment and clarified expectations for the term. We also revised the elements of a story and demonstrated our learning on a poster. 31st Aug We will be working in groups to read a story and present it's elements on a poster. |
Year 8
22nd Feb We will update our e-portfolios with our reflections and learning outcomes from the last unit on Short Stories. Students will be able to analyse their final product and share their work with peers; hence enhancing peer-learning in the classroom. Then we will being our next unit on sonnets. The final product will be a sonnet created by the student on a topic of personal interest to them based on what they have learnt about sonnets. Jan 2016 We will be working on a short unit based on story writing. Students will create a short suspense filled story in class based on the skills covered in this unit as well as the previous unit on Gothic Horror. 2nd November For our pre-novel learning, we are inquiring into different areas of the novel 'Woman In Black'. We will prac our presentation skills, research skills, collaborative skills, as well as our listening skills through this process. 26th Oct We are inquiring into the new statement on inquiry for our next unit 'The Horror, The Horror!'. We will also be working in groups to gain pre-learning for our novel study on 'The Woman in Black' 5th Oct Having finished writing our articles, we will work on deconstructing articles for our next assessment. 21st Sept We will be applying the various skills we have been learning about newspaper articles and we will prac writing our own articles. 14th Sept We shall continue to learn about different elements of effective news articles and how to write them. 7th Sept We will be learning about the elements and structuring of a news article, types of news and how to write an article. Aug 24 We were introduced to our first unit and have delved into the types of news we are exposed to. 31st Aug We are researching news types of our choice and deciding what makes items newsworthy. |
Year 9
22nd Feb We will continue with MAAN in class. Student will perform short impromptu skits demonstrating their understanding of Beatrice's character. Jan 2016 We will begin our unit on Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing [MAAN]. 2nd November We will be continuing with our individual oral commentary presentations. 26th Oct We will be assessing our learning through the presentation on oral commentaries. 5th Oct We will present our group projects to the class and learn about each poem from one another's presentations 21st Sept We will be working on improving our commentaries and analysis of poetry 14th Sept We will continue to work on our analysis and commentaries on war poems. Our focus will be to look at how literary language is used, its function and effects. 7th Sept We will demonstrate our understanding of our poem through our presentations and then we will learn to deconstruct and analyse 'Desolation before Troy'. Aug 24 We have set expectations and boundaries for ourselves and have been inquiring into the unit on War Poetry. 31st Aug This week we will spend time breaking up the Statement of Inquiry and creating a list of relevant topics we need to research into. We will share our learning on Monday, 7th September. |
